The long-established Estonian beverage producer A. Le Coq signed a purchase and sale agreement on 15.09.2025 to acquire 100% of the shares of one of Estonia’s best-known natural mineral water producers, Värska Originaal AS. With this transaction, A. Le Coq expands its non-alcoholic product portfolio and foresees new opportunities primarily in export markets.

According to A. Le Coq’s managing director, Jaanus Vihand, the company has not previously been involved in natural mineral water production, and the deal provides a good opportunity to expand operations: “To compete long-term with large foreign companies, especially in export markets, it is necessary to broaden the non-alcoholic product portfolio and increase production capacity. That’s why we have been looking for opportunities to realize our strategic ambitions. Värska’s mineral waters, which support a healthy lifestyle, complement our existing portfolio well, and bringing this beloved domestic brand under our roof is a great honor.”

Värska mineral water has been the most loved mineral water among Estonians for over 50 years. During this time, the company has developed into a modern beverage producer, with a portfolio that includes natural mineral water as well as innovative and award-winning drinks based on mineral water, such as Värska Vurtsvasser and Värska Magnesium.

“We are excited about this new stage in the company’s development. The cooperation will allow us to accelerate product development and bring Värska to even more consumers both in Estonia and abroad. At the same time, production will remain in Värska, as natural mineral water can only be produced at the source. Our people will continue their work, and our brand values will remain unchanged,” said Värska Originaal management board member Rauno Jõgeva.

According to Jaanus Vihand, Värska’s long history and professional staff, together with A. Le Coq’s team, will create new opportunities for even wider distribution of Värska’s product portfolio and brand. In addition to Estonia, there is potential to bring the domestic brand to the wider world:
“Värska is already sold in several foreign markets today, but in our view, the export potential is much greater. A. Le Coq exports products to more than 70 countries, our drinks are enjoyed by tens of millions of people worldwide, and we believe that A. Le Coq’s experience and contacts will enable the beloved Värska brand to grow even further in export markets.”

The purchase and sale transaction will be finalized once approval has been obtained from the Competition Authority. The deal is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026.
