Handsa, a traditional strong liquor from rye malt has been made in south Estonia since times immemorial and it is an important part of the rich folk culture of the Seto people. Handsa was drunk during celebrations; bringing out handsa was a sign of the acceptance of a stranger. It was a tradition to offer handsa in a single shot glass – this way, the host decided who had had enough.
The handsa-inspired Sosku is a lightly aromatic grain liquor made in the southern Estonian tradition that conveys historic customs and taste.
