The book is hardcover and contains 376 pages; the print is in four-colour and it includes abundant pictorial material. The inner side of the book cover displays an old map of Tartu, with locations of beer factories and lager cellars. The book includes a summary in English, Finnish and Russian; the picture captions are in Estonian and English. At the end of the book is a list of sources, bibliography and illustrations, as well as name register.
This thorough publication was printed on the occasion of A. Le Coq’s 200th Anniversary. The number of old industries in Estonia is generally very small, and only a few have made an undertaking to write up their own history and the history of their industrial branch. However, since A. Le Coq’s hometown Tartu is the birthplace of Estonian beer industry, and the history to be described is interesting, this enormous project was undertaken. We thank the author of the book, Andres Sepp, who collected materials for this book several years.
Andres Sepp was born in Tartu in 1963. The interest towards history has accompanied him all the time. In 1993-1994, the author was employed as the Manager of advertising of RAS Tartu Õlletehas, and later worked in several advertising agencies and edited publications. He has participated in the preparation of exhibitions dedicated to the history of beer in Estonia and Finland. Since 1999, Andres Sepp is the head of MTÜ Eesti Õlleajaloo Selts [Estonian Beer History Association].
"“Beer Town Tartu. Dedicated to A. Le Coq’s 200th Anniversary” is sold in bookshops all over Estonia. The average price of the book is about 320 kroons.
